History of Oakham Motocross Club
Welcome to Oakham-Motocross.co.uk. The website for Oakham's finest motocross club. Oakham Motocross Club was formed in 1978 by Terry King. 30 plus years on and Oakham competes in the East-Trent Group of the AMCA (Amateur Motor Cycle Association) and has over 40 members aged from 9 to 60+, both male and female. Oakham Motocross Club provides an opportunity for Motocross riders from the Melton, Grantham, Stamford and Rutland area to enjoy the sport of Motocross with the AMCA. If you wish to start in Motocross, the new name for Motorcycle Scrambling, and want to race at popular circuits like Sproxton, Tilton, Woodford, Badby, Bevercotes etc, then Oakham Motocross Club is one of the largest and most successful clubs in the East Midlands and has members from all over Rutland, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.
The AMCA
The AMCA (Amateur Motor Cycle Association) was established in 1932 in the West Midlands. The AMCA arranges and organises a number of off road motorcycling like Motocross, Classic, Trials, Enduro, Supermoto and Beach Racing. From its foundations, the AMCA has played a key part in the growth and popularity of off road motorcycling. Each year it arranges close to 1,000 events involving 75,000 entrants. How to Join Oakham Motocross Club
Oakham Motocross Club is the largest club in terms of members in the East-Trent Group (which stretches through Notts, Derbys, Leics, Lincs, Warks and Cambs) of the AMCA. There are meetings to enter from March to November each year at a different venue each week. To join Oakham Motocross Club, you will need to attend one of our weekly club evenings where our Club Secretary can advise you all about the Club and Motocross racing within the AMCA. Naturally you need to become a member of the Club (for a nominal membership fee), you also need to obtain a race licence from the AMCA and a transponder (the requirements for this will be explained later). This can all be explained to you at one of our club nights along with any assocaited costs. These are held on every Tuesday evening at 2100hours at the Marquis of Granby pub at Waltham on the Wolds.
Oakham and the AMCA in general are reliant on any new member simply providing support at its 'home' meetings each year. Oakham will ordinarily put on 3 or 4 meetings each year (on a Sunday) and in order to do so needs its members to outline the race track using stakes, ropes and barriers on the Saturday before the race meeting. There is also a requirement to provide a marshall on each of the 'home' meetings. The benefit if this structure is that for the rest of the season at every other club (there are approx 12 other clubs in the East region) you only need to turn up and ride!
