Saturday 27 November 2010 saw the Oakham Motocross Club hold the annual presentation awards at Greetham Valley Golf Club. The presentation evening also doubles up as the motocross clubs early Christmas party. Over 140 people attended the event to celebrate the performances of the 60 or so members.
Before the presentations got underway, first of all, there was a three course Christmas meal to be consumed! Most managed to eat their way through the turkey and Christmas pud before Terry King, (Oakham clubs chairman) commenced the presentation process. The first celebration of the evening was with regards to the East Trent Regional Championship. Local riders Curtis Plant, Tom Rudd and Chris Rose all did well to finish second in their regional categories, however, Mitch Nicholls won the regional championship in the MX2 Senior class. This was no mean feat by Mitch considering riders competed in the championship from Northants, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Rutland.
The second celebrations of the evening were regarding the Oakham club champion trophies. Connor Witcomb was successful in the Inter Juniors category after some consistent rides this season. Charles Vincent was the outright winner in the under 18 Juniors class. Tom Rudd’s first full season with Oakham was rewarded with him winning the over 18’s Junior trophy and saw him promoted to Seniors. MX1 Junior winner was stalwart and Club Secretary Ross Marshall. Mitch Nicholls stamped his domination on 2010 by also winning the Oakham MX2 Senior trophy to go with the regional award he won earlier in the night. Danny Partridge followed in his Fathers footsteps by winning the MX1 Seniors. In the elite class of Experts, Ryan Pridmore was the champion of the MX2 category. In the larger cc class for Experts, Adam Duffins efforts were rewarded with the trophy.
That then left two notable awards remaining, Club Champion and Riders Rider. Congratulations went to Chris Rose who took the Club Champion trophy. That then left all of the Oakham members to vote for the ‘Riders Rider’ award – probably the most respected award to win of the evening. Mitch Nicholls was the victor and took away his third trophy of the evening.
